Use greetings to get more quality chats. In this article, I’ll show you how to tune your greetings to get the results you want.
Greetings—are automatic messages that pop-up on your visitors screen and invite them to start a chat. They are triggered when specified conditions that you define are met. Your customer can choose whether or not to respond.
Getting more quality chats
Depending on your goals you’ll need to set up your greetings differently.
If you are just starting with LiveChat and your sites visitors are not used to chatting yet, you might need to get more chats in general, just to see the full potential of live chat.

Send greeting in the right place
To get more quality chats you first need to learn where they come from. Head to Archives and filter by achieved goals. Let’s say our goal is a successful purchase. And we set it to a week. We have 47 chats. Now click through them and see if you see any patterns on which pages they started on. In our case
Note: if you use groups or tags for particular pages, you can also filter by group instead of checking where the chat started manually.

Send greetings at the right time
The deeper down your website the visitor is, the higher the chances they’re interested in your product and need just an extra nudge from an agent to buy something off your website. Which means you the gritting should fire quicker, to encourage them to talk to you.
So for example set a greeting to be triggered after user click through 3 pages, the greeting is triggered after 5 seconds (5 second after landing on the 3rd page).

Try testing different lengths, to see which converts best.
To further narrow down the audience, to invite only customers with the highest potential you can check which pages convert best.
- Go to greetings conversion report and filter by the specific greeting.
- Click on the line on the chart that showed times when the greeting converted.
- Now, in the archives, filter by a specific goal, or sale (that you wanted to achieve).
- Now click through the conversations, checking out the started on url in the details section. Can you see patterns? In our example it seems like pricing page and features were the only pages where greetings helped you achieved your goals.
So now the greeting could look like this:
- the customer is on the pricing page (so we can send a more personalized message)
